1857 <\/strong><\/span>\u2013 The first mechanical sound recording device was the Phonautograph invented by \u00c9douard-L\u00e9on Scott de Martinville. The Phonautograph could record sounds, but could not play it back.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1877<\/span> <\/strong>\u2013 The first sound recording device that could play back the recorded sounds was the Phonograph (aka Gramophone) invented by Thomas Edison. The Phonograph used a rotating metal cylinder called the Phonograph Cylinder to play sound recordings.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1888<\/span> <\/strong>\u2013 The first disc records were invented by Emile Berliner. The disc records were made of vulcanized rubber.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1900<\/span> <\/strong>\u2013 The first legitimate patent for the invention of the radio is credited to Nikola Tesla. There is interesting scandal and corruption surrounding the invention of the radio. Tesla was officially recognized as the true inventor of the radio in 1943.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
